Just got puppy back from kennel, is this normal?
I just picked up my dog (6 month old lab/hound mix we rescued back in December) from being boarded at the vet's office since this past Friday. They said she did well over the weekend.
Now that we're home, she seems very subdued. She's normally extremely high energy. She just seems sad. And she just peed in my bedroom floor.
I'm wondering if maybe she's just exhausted. Any thoughts?
TIA

Re: Just got puppy back from kennel, is this normal?
Our dogs are always beat when they get home from being boarded. It's stressful (for most dogs), even if the dog seemed calm. Our dogs normally sleep for about a day - 2 days after coming home.
That said, I'd keep an eye on your puppy to make sure she is peeing/pooping normally and doesn't seem sick otherwise. Puppies/dogs can pick things up at the kennel, so I'd just be on guard. She should be back to her normal self within about 24 hours, I'd say. If not, I might start to get a little worried.
Ditto PP. I used to work at a boarding kennel and we often had people concerned about lethargic dogs after they got home.
Some dogs bark pretty much nonstop in the kennel, and if yours isn't the one barking then he probably won't be getting much sleep.
It's just a very stressful ordeal for a lot of dogs.
That sounds totally normal to me. My two pups were just boarded for 8 days (by far the longest they've ever been boarded). They were both completely exhausted for a few days and still are very tired a week later. My more high-strung pup has peed on the floor twice since he got home. He's 100% housebroken and has had 2 accidents in the 2 years since we adopted him (before these).
My guys don't normally go to day care, but when they stay at their "hotel," they are in day care for morning and afternoon sessions every day, so they expend a lot more energy. Boarding is also just stressful even if the boarding place is wonderful. I would try to get your pup back into her normal schedule, and maybe tether her to you when she's in the house to avoid accidents (that's what we're doing with our guy, and he seems much calmer already).
