My local radio station was talking about engagement rings this morning, and whether or not women like to pick out the style or be surprised because one emailer couldn't decide what to do for his gf. So out of curiosity~
Did you pick out your E-ring?

Is any part of your E-ring a family heirloom?
Do you hope to upgrade your E-ring ever?
Do you have a standard diamond or something else?

Re: E-Ring Poll
Did you pick out your E-ring? Yes.
>>If not, do you love the ring you received?
>>If so, did it ruin the surprise? No. He surprised me by taking me to the jewelry store (which I totally thought he was going to surprise me with lunch!) and told me to pick one. He had done his research, and printed out a few ideas and showed the store associate. However, this was not the proposal. That came a couple months later.
Is any part of your E-ring a family heirloom? No.
Do you hope to upgrade your E-ring ever? I don't think so. It's not huge (3 stone - the big stone is .5 carat, and the one on each side is .25, so a total of 1 carat) but I'm a really active person and wouldn't want something that is flashy and I could easily knock. Some people want a big ol' fancy ring ... mine is just fine for me.
Do you have a standard diamond or something else? Standard. Princess cut. with accent baguette diamonds on the sides of the 3 bigger diamonds and the wedding band is princess/banguette diamonds, so they actually kinda match.
Did you pick out your E-ring?

Did you pick out your E-ring? I picked out the setting, he picked out the diamond
>>If not, do you love the ring you received? Yes
>>If so, did it ruin the surprise? No- since we had talked about marriage and went shopping for a setting I liked, I knew it was coming, but I had no idea when/how.
Is any part of your E-ring a family heirloom? No
Do you hope to upgrade your E-ring ever? Never. No need to. DH told me that I could, but frankly, I'd rather take a trip somewhere and spend my money on traveling.
Do you have a standard diamond or something else? Standard
Wow, I sound like quite the demanding biitch about my e-ring. FTR, I preferred a round sapphire with an eternity band of diamonds...he insisted on diamonds b/c "there will always be time for a sapphire ring." He got me a sapphire for our anniversary last year.

Did you pick out your E-ring? No but I'd looked at them for years (still do) just because I like looking. He knew what I liked.
>>If not, do you love the ring you received? Yep
>>If so, did it ruin the surprise?
Is any part of your E-ring a family heirloom? Nope
Do you hope to upgrade your E-ring ever? I honestly don't know. Sometimes I think I want to and other times it seems strange to me. I think if it were to ever happen I'd need it to be a surprise, like I go pick up my ring from getting the rhodium re-done and wham! Bigger stone!
Do you have a standard diamond or something else? Diamonds
>>What is the something else if not a diamond?Did you pick out your E-ring? Yes

Is any part of your E-ring a family heirloom? No, but it looks like it could be.
Do you hope to upgrade your E-ring ever? E-ring? No. I might add an eternity band to it years down the road.
Do you have a standard diamond or something else? Sapphire
>>What is the something else if not a diamond? Cushion sapphire with 3 little diamonds in the band on both sides. (see my avatar or whatever that picture's called)
Did you pick out your E-ring? Yes. DH and I went together. There are so many different styles and he wanted me to choose one I loved.
>>If not, do you love the ring you received?
>>If so, did it ruin the surprise? Not at all. We had many discussions about marriage and engagement anyway. We waited until we were both fully ready, and I was just waiting for him to pop the question. I had no idea when or where he was going to propose until the moment happened. I didn't even know he had already bought the ring.
Is any part of your E-ring a family heirloom? No.
Do you hope to upgrade your E-ring ever? No. I love it and it's the perfect style and size for my finger, and it's timeless. I chose a classic princess cut solitaire and a classic looking wedding band with diamonds.
Do you have a standard diamond or something else? Princess cut diamond
>>What is the something else if not a diamond?
No you dont at all! I get wanting the sapphire because I love them too. I do really want an e-looking-ring but with a solitaire sapphire for my right ring finger, hopefully as an anniversary gift. There are a couple stones I really like but sapphire is my birthstone.
Did you pick out your E-ring? - no
>>If not, do you love the ring you received? - yes, it's perfect for me

Is any part of your E-ring a family heirloom? - no
Do you hope to upgrade your E-ring ever? - nope
Do you have a standard diamond or something else? - standard round diamond
>>What is the something else if not a diamond? - n/a
Yes, I helped pick it out. No it did not ruin the surprise, he still popped the question in a great way, and he swiped a ring from my jewelry box to propose with ( he felt like he needed something in his hand for it) then got me a real engagement ring with my help.
No part of my ring is a family heirloom.
I may want to have the side stones in my E-ring replaced down the line, as they are white sapphire not diamond and my diamond wedding ring makes them look a little "frosted" but I'm not in any sort of rush. I would never replace the metal or center stone unless severe damage occurred.
I do not have a diamond as my center stone. I have a Pacific Fire Blue Topaz. It is a lab created stone that was made in limited quantities, and while it is not as precious or expensive as some other stones, it is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen ( like an amped up alexandrite) and my husband and I both instantly knew that was THE ring the moment we saw it.
Did you pick out your E-ring? We picked it out together.
>>If not, do you love the ring you received?
>>If so, did it ruin the surprise? No. I was surprised enough that he even wanted to propose/get married. I didn't know when he was going to ask though, so that part was a surprise.
Is any part of your E-ring a family heirloom? No.
Do you hope to upgrade your E-ring ever? H said in the beginning he would get me a better one some day (we went the cheap route), but we want to design our own rings in the future so when we do that, I'll just wear the band. No need to upgrade if I won't wear it forever.
Do you have a standard diamond or something else? Something else
>>What is the something else if not a diamond? Sapphire with super tiny diamonds on the sides. My wedding band has round sapphires and diamonds alternating in the band, and the blues don't match at all. I still love them both though (people always ask why they don't match, it gets annoying).
