Hey ladies! I used to post here a lot, but haven't been here in a little while. I am looking for an old fashioned wedding cake recipe - the type of cake that was served before we all started fussing with fondant and layer filling.
My dad's mother in the 1950's and 1960's used to do the full wedding - all the food, the cake, she made the dresses and tuxes, and did the flowers. The whole thing! His birthday is coming up and he was reminiscing about that old fashioned white wedding cake and white frosting. I'd love to make it for him, but I don't have any recipes from his mother.
Does anyone have a cake/frosting recipe that they think would fit the bill? My hunch is that I'm looking for some type of standard white cake with a white (not necessarily vanilla) buttercream...but I'm not sure!
Re: "old fashioned" wedding cake recipe?
Instead of a standard american buttercream go with a meringue based buttercream like Swiss Meringue or Italian Meringue. They smooth much better. Also they are not as sweet as American Buttercream. Best yet.. no shortening..
this wife bakes.
One of my favorite cakes ever! I had a blast making this..all handmade with buttercream suds!!!!
