My sophomore year of college, I?d just moved to this town into a duplex with a roommate. DH and I had been dating for about 6 months, and he went out of town for the weekend. It was a Saturday night and I was awake around 3am reading a book because I couldn?t sleep, and my roommate was passed out in the next room.
Suddenly, I heard a noise at my window. I froze, breathing stopped and listened hard for anything else. Nothing. I waited a moment and then resumed reading for a minute before I heard another noise, louder and definitely out of the ordinary. It sounded like someone stepping on the grass outside, weigh shifting heavily.
This time, I put down my book and stared at the curtains covering my window for a long moment before I hear the unmistakable sound of my window sliding open.
I jumped out of bed, grabbed my phone, ran out of the house and locked myself in the car to call the police. I admit that I didn?t wake my roommate just then, I was afraid I?d get trapped in the house somehow? I felt terrible about it later!
10 minutes passed before a cop came walking out from behind my house, to my car parked in front. Behind the duplex ran an alley, and the cops had gone straight there when I called to tell them someone was trying to get in from the back yard, so I didn?t even know they had shown up yet.
The cop approached me and asked if I was the one who called.
?Yes,? I said ?What happened??
?We found a naked man in your backyard. We?d like you to come see if you can identify him.?
The cop escorted me to my backyard and I saw a male Hispanic man in his mid-late thirties handcuffed in the back of a police car (now clad in underwear). I did a cursory sweep of his face and told the cop that I?d never seen the man before. They carted him off to jail.
Finally, I woke my roommate up and told her what happened. The cops dusted for fingerprints, retrieved the man?s clothes from the alley where he?d left them, and carted him off to jail. Of course, I called DH and he offered to come back right then, but I told him not to bother and that I?d just go spend the rest of the night at his apartment.
I found out later that the man lived in an apartment complex down the street and could watch me coming and going from his window, and that he was on drugs of some sort when he tried to enter my house. He ended up on house arrest for a couple of months, and I moved shortly thereafter.
So there?s my true story about my peeping tom/stalker/ who knows what would have happened if I hadn?t been awake. The light was on in my room, so he had to have been high on something to attempt to enter, knowing I was awake. Now you know why I?ve slept with a gun beside the bed ever since then!
The end.
Re: Story time!
Crazy story! I definitely do not blame you for keeping a gun beside you at night! That would creep me out to no end.
Holy Shiit! That's scary!!
OMG. Creeeeeeepy.
WHOA, that's really unsettling and scary!
LOL @ identify the naked man, I am glad they put something over him when you went to look.
I'd be freaked out for a long time after that one, don't blame you one bit for the gun. We have more than one by our bedside, so we are right there with you, and I haven't even had something as crazy as that happen.
Yikes!!
Confession: I was waiting for the creeper to be your husband. I thought that's what you were hinting at and it was just going to be a romance fail.
I would be SO freaked out.
I honestly probably would have a panic attack if it happened to me, and also this is one of my fears as well because I am a deep sleeper and am constantly afraid something will happen to me while I'm sleeping.
LOL. major fail.
Holy crapsicles!
That would terrify me! I need to get my CHG license. Living where we live, I don't need it as urgently.
You've got great quick thinking!
Neither of us have our CHL, in Texas you dot need one unless you plan to carry a gun on your person in public. You can even keep a gun in your glove box, if you wish, and I do take mine on long road trips by myself in case I get stranded somewhere. As long as you immediately disclose the location on the gun to law enforcement it's perfectly legal. I may eventually get my CHL, but I just don't see the need to have one on me at all times... We live in Texas, so I'm sure there's always someone carrying around to help out should the need arise.
I had that happen once. We were in the college dorms and we heard someone running on the roof and then they hung their head into our window. If was some girl's boyfriend (the girl lived down the hall) who had been kicked out of the dorms. He was trying to sneak in to see her.
Haha, yeah, CHL (I was typing what I was saying).
I want to keep it in my purse. More than anything, I want the courses that go with it. Hubby is great with a gun, but I want to know that I know whatever is needed to pass the class.
Yes! I totally agree... you can never be too educated, especially on guns! I've read the laws, but I definitely need classes to understand it all completely.
Holy shiit! That's scary! I'm glad you heard the guy and he was caught.
I have a fear of someone breaking in while I'm sleeping.
