For those of you who weaned your babies, did you start combining nursing sessions or did you just drop them altogether, one by one? Right now, Eli is nursing 11 and 3 during the day (plus in the morning and at night), and I don't know if I should just skip one, or try to nurse at like 1 or something. Suggestions? I'm dropping my extra pumping session next Monday, but I'm not sure how soon I'll start dropping nursing sessions. How long in between drops did it take you to get adjusted? TIA!

Re: BFing Question
Is he asking to nurse, or are you offering? I think that can make a big difference on how long it might take. I was all for self- weaning, so when M stopped asking to nurse I dropped the mid-morning (your 11am) and then offered after she ate her lunch of solids. Once I did that a few days she kind of naturally dropped the 3pm and just nursed morning, mid-day, and night. She did that maybe another 4-6 weeks before she stopped asking for the mid-day nursing. I nursed twice a day until she self-weaned when I was 8/9 weeks pregnant with #2. I would offer to nurse and she would half heartedly take a few sips and then say "no" and wiggle off my lap. On the last day she just flat out didn't want to try at all and that was that. I didn't leak or have any issues when I dropped from the 4 nursings to 3 and then again from 3 to 2. I got maybe slightly fuller feeling for a couple days, but nothing like the engorgement of early on. I had no issues when she self-weaned completely, but I don't know if that was because I was pregnant already and my supply just tanked at that point. I didn't even leak or feel full.
ETA: I also had stopped pumping at work when she was a year old and was still able to nurse her twice a day with no issues for quite awhile. When she dropped from the 4 to 3 nursing sessions probably around 10 1/2-11mo and just pumped once a day at work for almost two months and then stopped pumping at a year and was still able to nurse 3x a day if I was with her until she dropped the mid-day session on her own.
Heather - he wants to nurse in the morning or after a lap, but I offer at night (actually I think that would be the easiest to drop, funny enough). I'll start paying closer attention to see which ones would be easiest to drop.
You were able to nurse during the day (I guess on the weekends and on your day off?) even though you weren't pumping at work? I definitely want to stop pumping, but I guess I just assumed I would have to stop nursing during the day as well.

I would drop the nursing(s) he doesn't ask for first. Just one at a time. Mariela was not attached to nursing before bed, her biggest and most dependent session was always the first one in the morning. She dropped her bedtime nursing before her final morning nursing...broke my heart as that was prime snuggle time, but it helped because then Alexi and I started alternating nights on who puts her to bed.
Yes, I was able to nurse during the day on Wednesdays and weekends once midday even though I dropped my pumping at work. I don't think I needed to do it for very long (maybe 6 weeks???) before she dropped to just two nursings a day on her own. My body just got used to that schedule and I think it helped that I worked two days on, had a day off to nurse, two more days working, and then the weekend to nurse. I'm not sure if it would work if you couldn't nurse at noon for a full five days in a row.
