Safe chicken jerky?

I'm just now realizing that my pup has been eating the from-China-bad-news chicken jerky. She loves it. I obviously want to switch now that I know it's bad. I feel like a horrible, neglectful owner right now Sad Please, feel free to flame away. I'm flaming myself.

Are there any recommendations (other than making it at home, which is currently on the table as an option) on safe brands?

Re: Safe chicken jerky?

  • Do you specifically want the texture of a jerky vs other types of treats?  If so, I have both dehydrated at home (beef) and Primal is a great brand that I have used that does make "jerky" texture treats in several types of proteins.

  • She eats raw/grain-free. So... it's not necessarily the texture as much as the type of treat. Does that make any sense at all?

When we lived in a big city she ate Dogswell chicken, but I haven't seen it since we're at where we are now (although I've been googling to see about ordering it online... I'm overall very wary right now though.) I'm going to check out Primal right now.

  • I feed raw and grain free too and I highly recommend dehydrated raw for treats because it's just a protein, not added ingredients.  Keefer really likes Stella and Chewy's Carnivore Crunch, Bravo training bites and other dehydrated raw treats (Bravo comes in a bunch of proteins), A Place for Paws dehydrated raw (especially green tripe), and for a lower value treat Real Meat treats are good.

  • I'm going to look into all of these - thank you!!!! She's very food motivated, so I'm not super concerned about her liking/disliking, mostly just about finding something safe and healthy.

  • No problem, I understand and I do like those brands.  I also do some dehydrating at home.
