Car sick. Help?

The last few days I've been getting extremely car sick to the point I have a bag in front of me just in case. I'm not driving, so that might be a fix.

Has anyone had this happen? It seems like it came out of nowhere.  Sad

I've been out of the car now for over and hour and I still feel sick to my stomach. It's not like it was rush hour traffic (stop and go) on the way home, it was smooth sailing. Sucky :(

  • No, but that is a good idea. I hasn't thought of that, thanks!

  • Are you driving with the windows down? Sometimes I get car sick and that helps.

  • As PP suggested, you could try dramamine (make sure to get the non-drowsy kind). My husband gets motion sick and he swears by sea-bands. (link

  • This might sound odd, but have you eaten or drunk anything different lately or had extra caffeine?

I never get car sick, but a few months ago this was happening to me off and on.  I felt dizzy, especially with quick movements or when in the car.  I finally figured out that caffeine from my morning coffee was triggering it.  Weird, I know.  But when I googled there seems to be a lot of other people who experience this also.

I haven't adjusted the amount of caffeine lately.  I would blame the caffeine though as I've had the shakes after getting out of the car. I usually don't drink my coffee until after I get into work. :(

  • I have our puppy slowly nibble on a cracker. It has worked.
  • Did you read/focus on/text anything? I can't do any of that or I get extremely car sick. I really get everything-sick, I'm surprised I can turn my head without heaving. I just crack the windows, sip water, and try to close my eyes and not focus on anything.

Weird that it's only happened recently, I hope it goes away, or you figure out something to help with it!

  • I frequently get car sick. Hell, I get nauseated just turning around too fast. For cars (and planes and boats) ginger ale and ginger snaps help me. I've also heard that peppermints work for car sickness, but I've never tried them because I hate peppermint.

When I feel like I'm going to be sick, I open the window. The rush of air (helps if it's cold) for some reason keeps me from getting sick.

  • Altoids makes these ginger mints. You could try sucking on one of those. Ginger always helps when I have a tummy ache.

  • I get car sick all the time.  I think it must have something to do with my sinuses because I have a lot of sinus/allergy issues and constantly have an overflow of fluid.  I'll even feel nauseous when I drive sometimes.  Opening the window helps a little, ginger ale helps.  I dont take anything because all that stuff makes me really sleepy.  Once I had a dr prescribe me something for vertigo and that really helped but I cant remember what it was.
