Eiffel Tower PSA

We Eiffel booked our tickets in advance for our April trip and received this email today.  Thought I'd share:

Dear Madam, Sir,

You have used our Online ticketing service to book a visit to the Eiffel tower.

We inform you that a technical incident leads us to operate with one single lift until May 1st, 2012. Therefore, depending on the affluence, the access waiting time to the monument may exceed 2 hours.

Considering the circumstances, if you wish to abandon the idea of visiting the Eiffel Tower, please let us know: we advise you to e-mail us and to forward to us the e-mail confirming your purchase.

Re: Eiffel Tower PSA

  • Oh no!  We waited over 2 hours when both lifts were operating last year (even with an advanced ticket purchase).

Hopefully you will be lucky and it won't be to busy when you go.

Oh sheesh, really?!  We're going on a Wed morning in April, so I'm hoping we won't have a major wait time.  My fam went last April, with no advance tix, and only had to wait about 45 min...so I hope we'll be okay!
  • Ugh- I hope this doesn't make the line for climbing the steps much longer!  We'd already decided to skip going to the top because we try to fit in as much activity as possible on vacation when we're not working out as much- 720 steps to the 2nd level sounds like a good climb!

We were there in October 2010 and went up at night, but it was Fashion week and the same week that there were a lot of terrorist warnings in Paris so I think things were moving slow due to security concerns.

  • Yeah when you say April, I know the kids in France have off 2 weeks in April around Easter as do the kids in the UK.  I would guess this is true for most European countries.

There is not a huge long summer like in the US, the school year is broken up with term and half term breaks.  This is a term break.

    Sorry.

Thanks, I should have mentioned we are aware of we may run into this. We're not overly concerned, but I wanted to share this with others who are considering going to Eiffel in the next 1.5 months so they're aware.

eta: looking at this website, it looks like the break/holiday is after our trip.

  • Thanks for the headsup!  This makes me feel so much better about not being able to get advance tickets.

Maybe we'll head there straight from the airport.  Or not.  We are only in Paris for one day on arrival (and one day before departure), so maybe we'll hang out and see how the line is at night.  I mean, I've already been there; how much can it change?Wink

    Good luck!
  • Oh gosh, thanks for posting this!  We get to Paris two weeks from today.  Maybe we'll have to skip it?  I feel sort of horrible and sort of liberated saying that!
  • Wow. We will barely miss it. We're planning on going to the Eiffel Tower on the 14th of May.

Thanks for sharing!  We will be there at the end of May, here's hoping the work is completed on time.

We never even bothered.  I don't feel like I missed out on anything.  We did go to the top of arc de triomphe, and I had fun just watching the roundabout, but that was a good enough view/use of our time.
