What are some not-so-fishy-tasting types of fish to try?

I cook a lot of salmon at home- we all enjoy it and I don't find it to be really fishy tasting. I'm looking to try different fish- what are some that are good to try, some that aren't quite as fishy as others? Thanks!

  • Salmon is very "fishy" tasting so if you can eat that I think you're good.

Avoid bluefish and mackerel, or as I call it, "the stinky mackerel".

You could always try tilapia, it's extremely mild in flavor.

  • I'd try tilapia, it's about the only fish I'll eat because I can't deal with the fishy smell or taste of many other fish.

  • Not sure how easy it would be for you to get this, but my husband ordered a Blue Hawaiian Marlin and gave me a bite to try. It was so good and barely tasted like fish at all.

But I consider salmon to be very fishy tasting/

Yep! I do like salmon! I've tried some fish in the past (I forget what kind) and have been turned off by the taste, so to start venturing past salmon, I was hoping to try some of the lesser fishy tasting ones and go from there. Thanks to the pp for that thread link!

  • Try arctic char. It is like a combo of salmon and trout, but not very fishy at all. I like it, and I loathe salmon.

  • Haddock is a really mild fish.

I find trout to be fairly mild.  I've had mostly fresh out of the stream/lake trout, and even H who wont eat any seafood likes it pretty well.

  • Go to the Seafood Shop (Central & Woodlawn-ish) and they are awesome with helping you figure out what you'd like and have great product there, too! Then you can stop at Great Harvest across the street for something doughy to go with:)
