A "dad's board" on TB - lay it out for me, what do you think? Guys - weigh in pls

They're thinking of implementing a Dad's board on TB. I know there are a few guys floating around TB posting on the boards, but there aren't many (mostly because they're branded as weirdos and driven away).

What do you think of making a special Dad's board over there? Do you have any objections?

What do the guys think of it?

A big old middle finger to you, stupid Nest.

  • I don't think it would get utilized much

  • There are like four men on the entire nest and as far as I know, only two of them have babies. Are there any on the bump?

I don't have any objections but have the nest gods seen the SSH board? Because that's what the dads' board is going to look like.

  • I wouldn't put my money on it getting much traction, but I don't hate the idea. I don't really get why dads get branded wierdos on the bump. They care about their kids too, ya know? Unless they're being, you know, wierd.

  • I have no objections to it, but I agree - I don't see it really being utilized much.

Because most of the dudes who show up on the bump/nest ARE weirdos. There are only three exceptions to this rule.

To be fair, most of the ladies on the bump are weirdos, too. :p

    Who are the exceptions?

  • I don't think it'd be used very much, despite the fact that most of the women there (based on CPs here, and a number of regs) are weirdos themselves.
  • I don't care either way, but like pps mentioned I don't think it would get used much.  Or I think a bunch of girls would go over there to ask questions and there would be like one guy who ever posted.
    Go babies Caden!
  • There's a guy that posts on the Photography board who knows his shiz. He was hounded mercilessly by a group of women for a while for no other reason than that he has a penis.

I didn't get it, it's not like he was posting on a gestational board. He was posting on a non-gender specific board.

  • I think it's a great idea! I would totally tell my H about it. And boo on bumpies for chasing off fathers. The stereotype of the bumbling inattentive father is eroding. Time for the bump to catch up.

Actually, there are four, PCE has three and TIP has one, right?

  • I mean, sure, make it, but I think if guys wanted to talk about kids they could just post on the regular boards.  I'd love for some (sane) men to post on there.  Men take care of babies too!  I could never see my husband post on the bump.  He has an email listserv where he shoots crap with his friends a lot.

I know of one dude who posts on the TTTC board.  He doesn't have a baby yet (obviously).

TIP intermittently has two, I think.  Drama and EngineerAaron, right?

Advertisement and their magazines (I think). They're a bit at odds with people using their message boards because TB/TN/TK want to grow their population, and the people using the boards want to keep it small.

  • I'm not opposed to it, but I'd be surprised if it was a board with a lot of traffic.

Also, I'm just saying now, if MH ever joins the nest/bump, I don't claim him so don't ask me to explain any of the crazy sh*t he says, okay?  ;)

We all moved over to the Bump.  At first it was to separate baby related posts over there but eventually all the chat moved there.  It's the same group of people though and eventually the newbies without kids find us there.

  • IME from lurking on boards where the majority of participants are men, they will toss a random parenting or relationship question out in the middle of all the talk of guns, bombs, and boobs, it gets answered, and everyone moves on.  They don't obsess over the day-to-day minutae.

Nevertheless, I certainly wouldn't be bothered by a "dad" board and would be happy to have the opportunity to welcome a few more Y chromosomes into the mix.  It bothers me to read that men get run off of some of the boards here.  What a shame.

    Andplusalso, I miss SIIHPPAP.

  • Fun fact: my "mommy" group has 5 dads.

I am loling at this. Because I am sure its true.

As for the propose board - why would I go on there when all the smart ladies (and gents) are on here?

I think you should get the demand for a board, then make one. Not make a board, and then hope for the demand.

  • Men are scary and can't be trusted around children.  Why would you want a board for them to plot evil deeds with others?

But to actually answer the question, I think it would be a useful tool *if* it were heavily trafficked.  Men have a different experience than women when it comes to kids and it'd be a good thing to have a place to talk about it and learn from each other.

All of this.  Sounds like a good way to broaden perspectives.

  • Don't you think there would be a zillion female lurkers and trolls?  If I were a guy, that wouldn't be appealing.

From TB/TN's standpoint, though, a zillion lurkers would be just swell.  More eyeballs on ads for them.

  • why the hell not? They have a board for a ton of dumb topics... that never get used... so why not have a dad's board? If a few dudes end up there- that's great.

there have been a couple dads who post on the Multiples board when their wives are in the hospital, etc.

I used to be Goldie_locks_5 but the new nest is so screwed up that I was forced to start over.
