Loathe, entirely. However you say it, it either sounds pretentious(Maxwell), ridiculous (Maxi), or common (Max).

I like Maxwell (Max for short) for a boy's name. For a girls name? No way.
I met a kid named Maxamilion (yes, one L) when I worked at a summer camp. But there were a lot of other awesome names... Like Wolfegang, he went by Wolfy (I was his swim instructor!).
Oh but I'm not allowed to talk about that camp on the boards anymore because a celebrity's kid was there last summer and I mentioned it, and they called the camp/the camp called me and I had to take down the entire post blahblahblah.
Assuming the linked article isn't a crock of crap, I really hope they decide to go with Zinfandel. That would be epic.
