My husband's grandparents used to cook a special meal for the family every year on St. Patrick's Day and the tradition was lost after they passed away because my MIL does not cook. I want to recreate this meal (corned beef and cabbage) for my husband this weekend but I have never cooked corned beef before and I don't know where to buy it or how to tell if it's a "good" one. I just called one store that is known for their meat department and they told me that have packaged corned beef in a cooler in front of the meat counter... is that okay? I'm a vegetarian so buying meat is completely out of my realm. Any help you all could offer would be wonderful! Thank you!
Re: Corned Beef Brisket?
I always check the sodium content on the pre-seasoned packages. It's typically up there, and even though it's a once a year meal, it's best to get the lowest sodium option available.
Like pp's said, it's super simple and tasty for leftovers on some rye bread the next day.
