Embroidery / Sewing Machine Recommendations

I have a regular sewing machine, but I was looking for something that I could use to do easy monogramming. I would like something that is easy to use as well, anyone have any recommendations?

Re: Embroidery / Sewing Machine Recommendations

  • I have a Janome MC9700 & the Digitizer Pro software--I LOVE it, but it's a pretty big investment. If you're looking for a more reasonably priced machine, I'd check out one of the Brother Machines like the SE-350, the SE-400 or the PE-770!

  • I bought an SE-400 off Overstock as a "refurb" (as usual- it was brand new condition) for $272 shipped (after a coupon). It works perfectly- I really love it. I use Stitch Era Universal- a free digitizer/editor- and it works great! It just needs to run online because it has ads. There's a pay version if you want to go ad free, but, it's $1Kish. The ads are very non-intrusive, IMO.

ETA The SE-350 isn't made anymore, and online it's price is jacked up everywhere- it doesn't have a USB port like the SE400, which means it's a PITA to get all the awesome free designs you can find online onto it. :)

They both have a limitation of a 4x4 design, though- good to know going into it. I've been able to split larger designs with my software, though- it really depends on the design.

  • I have an SE-350. I love it but there is no way I'd tell anyone to buy it when the SE-400 can be found for a similar price and has a USB port instead of the dumbass card reader mine does.

  • I have both a Brother SE-350 and a Baby Lock Esante. The quality of the stitching on the 350 doesn't come close to the Esante.
