H&F Open Letter Thursday

Dear Flu,

I hate you, leave my body. Losing 5 pounds in 2 days is not my idea of a good time.

Signed,

Your host

Dear H,

You rock for taking care of me while I am sick.

I promise to get back to you starting tomorrow afternoon. This week has been a little bit of a downer. Though I've still been doing my workouts at home and getting in some short runs, I miss you, friend.

  • Dear half marathon PR,

I can see you in my mind. I can smell you, like that staticky bundle of energy that occurs before a great thunderstorm. I can almost touch you. I can feel you on the verge of my fingertips. Don't slip away on Saturday. I've put in a ton of hard work and dedication in the past year to meet you, so please don't stand me up.

    Love,

    Dear RnR USA,

Please don't have ruined the National series. It needed an overhaul but so far people have been a wreck over your delayed logistics, your paltry choice of band/medal/shirt, and overall shenanigans. Make me believe in you so I have an excuse to travel to neat places to race with your series.

  • Dear Spin Bike,

I have missed you this week, and I hope you feel the same.  Every night has had something family related going on, and DS has even had early morning practices that I have had to bring him too.  There has just been no time.  Friday night, can we set a date?  Please?

    Dear DH,

You have been absolutely awesome the last few weeks, and I can't thank you enough for picking up my slack.  Really, coming home to rotisserie chicken, grilled spuds, and asparagus (even though I know you really don't like it) is more than I could ask for.  You even folded my underwear.  I don't even fold my own underwear.  Tonight is the last night I have to eat and run, I promise, and I will then treat you to...well, whatever you want!  :-)

    Love, your very greatful wife.

  • Dear Running,

It still baffles my mind how I can love you and hate you at the same time.  If you could do me a favor and make my next run a little bit easier than yesterdays so we can keep on being BFF's that would be super.

     Kisses,

    Kim

  • Dear weather for RnR USA race on Saturday,

Please be nice and cool down a bit, normally I love temps near 80, but for running, not so much.  When I register for a half in March, I do not expect it to be that hot.  I'm not acclimated to running in the heat anymore, so I'm not very happy right now.  Heat=run killer for me.  My time was already not going to be great, this will slow me down even more.

Signed, runner who gets extremely hot while running

  • Dear Muscles,

Okay, I have been slacking, I know. But I am put forth a valiant effort to get back on track this week. However, the fact that you are deciding to cramp and hurt and be uber painful is not helping things. Please, heal up and get better. K, thanks.

    Smooches!

  • Dear body,

A few things--why am I not losing weight?!  I am so frustrated that I cry weekly.  I am eating healthy smaller portions (but still enough that I don't starve) and I am running about 20 miles a week.  Everybody else I know is shocked at how healthy I am and how much I run, and yet I am still stuck at 167 lbs.  It is frustrating to watch my skinny friends eat pizza and ice cream and drink booze and I watch everything I eat and am still wearing a size 12.  I just want to be down 20 more pounds and I do not know what else to do to make this happen.

Also, please work as hard as you can on Saturday for my little 5K.  If I do not beat my previous PR I will really start crying.

    Signed,

    frustrated.

  • dear legs,

please to be cooperating on saturday.  I've worked hard all winter and I'd like to go under 1:50 please.

  • Dear race pictures:

Why are you so horrible? I wish for once they looked halfway decent. You know that thing called Photoshop, please use it on me. While you are at, shave about 20 lbs to the picture?

    from,

a gal who wants to look halfway decent in her race pictures.

    Dear body,

Is it really necessary to have back spasms? Get it together so I can run again.

    kthxbye

  • Dear Old Lady Tennis Club at the Gym:

It must be wonderful to be retired and be able to hang out at the club all day, tennis-ing and lunching and whatever else it is that you do.  I envy you and look forward to doing the same exact thing when that time in my life comes.  I will not, however, congregate with all my old lady tennis club friends right inside the entrance, blocking access for all the the working stiffs who are just trying to get their workout in so they can rush off to work and the eleventy bajillion other things they have to do today.  In other words: move your old, wrinkly asses out of the day-um way!!!!!

    Sincerely,

    Cranky working stiff

  • Dear fellow gym members,

Please return the weights to the weight rack when you are finished with them. Spending 10 mins playing  hide & seek with the 10lb weights is NOT a fun game for a busy woman after a long day at work.

Please feel good on my feet tonight.  My adrenalines are starting to get up there in mileage and for $44, I couldn't help but pick a pair of you up from Running Warehouse.  It would be very nice for you to work out so that I can hold off on the 2012 adrenalines or pure cadence until AFTER I have the baby.

While I am happy for you that you placed in your first 5K, I am secretly jealous that you infringed on "my" sport.  You're a great biker, which is why I'm too intimidated to bike, and now I know you're a great runner too.

Hahaha, I got the same ones - $44 was too good to pass up.  But, if they don't work for running, they can my new playground sneaks!

Also, why did you back out of Boston, I mean, other than the fact that you will be well into your 3rd trimester (hehehe).  Was there a medical issue, or just a general feeling that it would be too much?  Just wondering.  You are a rock start either way!

I read a lot of airlines won't allow you to fly if you are past 32 weeks pregnant, which I will be.  I can't drive alone since it will be a 13 hour trip and refuse to take the 17 hour train. and there is the amount of money we would spend on the trip if I did go.  We are neck deep in remodeling our kitchen, need to decorate the baby's room and need to tile our basement.  I just felt that this was the only logical decison.

It sucks, but I know Boston isn't going anywhere.  it gives me a post-pregnancy goal.  Big Smile
