Food picture tips?

What are your best tips and tricks for taking pictures of food for your blog?  I just started mine, and I know my pictures need work!  Any help is much appreciated Big Smile

Re: Food picture tips?

  • Ellkaysmom has some tips on her website here.
  • These are perfect.  Exactly what I was looking for.  Thanks, ladies!
  • The biggest tip is to read Plate to Pixel. You can buy it on amazon, and it is pretty fantastic. Also, it looks like you are using a flash. Stop it :P

Try to use natural light, diffused with sheer curtains as much as possible. It's so hard to take pictures of food, I feel like I beat myself up daily because my food photography isn't as good as I want it to be!

Just remember that it is a constant learning process and just try to tackle on thing at a time.

I would also recommend buying Lightroom to process your photos, I love it!

This. I just got the book the other day and from skimming it, the book is laid out really nicely to see how various camera settings differ and how light makes a huge difference.

Thanks!  And yes, I do use a flash; I do most of my cooking at night, so there really isn't much natural light to work with.  I'm definitely going to check out the book.  Thanks for the suggestion!
