half-circle / arch window coverings?

We just bought a house that has quite a few of the half-circle arch windows on top of the regular rectangular windows (including some in two of the bedrooms). I have never dealt with these before and I'm wondering if you have any advice about coverings for them.

(Sorry if this has been asked before, but I am pretty new to this board and I tried the search but it didn't come up with anything.)

Re: half-circle / arch window coverings?

  • It seems like the two ways of dealing with the arched windows that I've seen the most often lately are to either hang the regular curtain rod below the arched window and not cover the arched window at all, or to hang the regular rod higher than the arched window so that it shows when the curtains are opened, but when they are closed it just looks like normal window coverings.
  • I've just seen ppl do a plain old curtain rod at the height of the rectangle part of the window and leave the arch uncovered. I'm sure if you just hang curtains high and wide (so they are above the arch)it would look fine too:

     Is that what you mean?

  • I'm not so worried about them in the family spaces (den etc.) but in the bedrooms, I would like to cover them to keep out the light for the little kids when they nap. I think the last picture would work fine, although maybe I need even more light blocking than that.... hmmmm.

But yes, those are exactly the kind of windows we have. Thankfully not on every window though.
