hi ladies,
I really appreciate your responses earlier on my tile remorse post. Please humor me as I ask more questions...
So I went downstairs and I think it does look better with the grout. I can't get a good picture of it, but here it is (gray grout) with the carpet sample book next to it.
It still looks really pink in this iphone picture, but IRL, it does seem more yellow/gray to me. (but at this point, I think I need to get my eyes checked)
Anyway, so my question is about the carpet samples. Do you know if they typically arrange them in samples books so the "beige" samples on the bottom row correlate with the colors in the same column? So for example, the beige sample on the far right bottom corner has a reddish undertone (b/c the reds are in that column) and the one on the far left bottom corner has more of a blue/cool undertone b/c it's in the gray/black column?
It doesn't help that all the samples are kinda grungy and the photo is terrible. sorry! I'm just wondering if I should avoid the beige tones towards the right side of the board b/c they will have pink undertones and will make my tile just look pinker?
I'm also going to post colors I chose for the walls in this space-
The paint color I chose for the walls of the main rec room (where the bar is) is BM Hot Spring Stones. Here's a pic I found on the internet of it:
And my daughter's playroom, which is open to the main rec area but is a separate area is going to be painted in BM Spirit in the Sky, which is sort of a muddy turquoise color. Here's a pic from the internet (although IRL it is not this light):
Both of these spaces will share the same carpet and the tile is in the back area of the rec room as well as around the door that leads outside (which is off of the playroom).
so this long-winded post is really to ask:
1. Does anyone know if how I described the set-up of the carpet swatches is correct?
2. Which undertone (pink, green, yellow, etc) should I be avoiding (or using) if I am using the above tile and paint colors? Tile can't be changed, but I could still change the paint colors.
and sorry to post and run, but I have to go pick up my dog from daycamp. I'll check back later!
THANKS!!!
Re: updated pics of tile with grout (and ?s for those good with color!)
1) From what I can tell in the picture, the setup of the swatches is exactly what you've described.
2) Yes, I would stay away from the right half of the swatch board for picking your carpet.
3) I would choose either the 2nd swatch on the bottom row (from the left) or the 1st swatch in the 2nd row. The third swatch in the first row might be OK, too, but it's hard to tell from the picture just how green it might be.

The carpet I like best is the second from the left, bottom row of the black sample board. From the white sample board I like the second from the left bottom row or the first on the left 2nd row. That might be too blue (hard to tell) but I think it might pull out more of the blue/grey in the tile & grout.
Or maybe even the 4th row up, far right sample on the black board. Something darker like that might help, although that might not be what you were hoping for in a basement.
Honestly I really like the light gray color the best. The one just to the right of the white. I think gray would go with all of the paint color and the tile you have. Beige walls with beige carpet and beige+gray tile seems kinds blah to me. A gray would mix it up a little and still be very neutral.
My second choice is the beige with what looks like a slight yellow undertone. It's bottom row, 4th from the right.
Those were my top 2 choices too, although the second one seems more brown than yellow. There are a couple of others that seem much more yellow and make the tile look more pink.
DUP. So here's a picture of a fluffy bunny, since I can't delete yet:
LOL!!
ok, so it looks the general consensus is the light gray, second from the left on the bottom row. I really liked that one too. DH thinks we should go darker so that it will hide dirt and wear-and-tear better, but the fabric we chose for the sectional is dark so I'm worried it will get too gloomy looking.
and the black sample board is berber, which we ruled out b/c DH hates the feel of it and our dog's claws get caught up in it. I like that it's durable though.
thanks, everyone, for your help!!
