Anyone buy at Roomplace or Value City Furniture?

I know you get what you pay for with furniture.  However, I found bedroom sets at both Roomplace and VCF that I like, anyone have experience/reviews for either company?  The VCF one is about $800 cheaper, but I don't want it to fall apart in two years either...

Thanks!

Re: Anyone buy at Roomplace or Value City Furniture?

  • our living room furniture was purchased at Value City and it has held up great for the last 2 years. We looked all over and its the same set that we could have bought at several other stores but for cheaper. The only complaint is the delivery: we bought a sectional couch, coffee table, tv stand, bar stools, and a large mirror. The mirror came broken and it took three deliverys over a 4-5 week span to actually get every piece. We complained several times during those 4-5 weeks so we got a substantial amount of $ off the order for the inconvinience. So if you have patience then I think you should do Value city :)
  • I bought my first couch and loveseat at VCF, and it held up terribly. I only paid $500 for both, and they were microfiber, so that may have had something to do with it, but I think I would've been better off getting hand me downs. I got rid of them within 2 years.

  • Out here VCF is known as American Signature.  I think the quality is fine, it isn't Ethan Allen, but it's on par with Ashley, and the like.

I bought my sister's sectional from there and they love it, three kids and animals and constant entertaining and it's fine.

  • We bought an entire bedroom set 3 years ago and it has held up great, even through 3 moves.

That being said, we bought a sectional for $750 and the couch broke after 3 weeks. We don't have kids and it's not like we're flopping down on it.  We had them come in the house and fix it. A month later, it broke again. So we had them take it away and fix it. A month after that it broke for a third time. We talked to the "manager" at the store and said, "Look, can we just return it and get the money back". She said no. I said it broke 3 times in less than 3 months, how do you think your product is holding up. She said that it didn't matter how many times it broke, once it was delivered to my house, there were no returns. I called the customer service number and they said the same thing. They ended up coming back to my house and fix it the third time and stapled and reenforced the wood, and that was 7 months ago. Haven't had any problems since.

So, anway. Bedroom set is great, has held up for three years through three moves, but couch couldn't hold up for 1 month.

  • We got a "mix and match" dining room suite from VCF and it's holding up great. Full disclosure: we don't use our dining room much so there's not a lot of wear and tear, but was incredibly handy for hosting both sides of the fam at Thanksgiving.

That said, like others, I'm not terribly impressed with our sectional. Nothing's broken per se, but the cushions are definitely sagging and one part of the back feels loose. But it works for us for now.
