Building up the ground around the edge of your house

Good morning! We're in the process of buying our first home, and had our inspection yesterday. One of the items that came back is that the ground right next to the house in the back needs to be built back up to stop water from flowing to the house. It's not a major problem - there's just a little dip right at the edge of the house that extends out...maybe a foot? I have no idea how much this would cost, and don't know how to even find out this information. Can any of you offer insight? Thanks!

Re: Building up the ground around the edge of your house

  • We did this on my last house, and are about to do it on our new house.  It's called re-grading.  For both our houses, we had all the previous concrete removed and started from scratch.  While we were at it, we had underground drainage added in.  We paid $4000 for a 1200 sq. foot house.
  • You'll just need to call a contractor who does ground work to come out and give you a quote.

I would suggest possibly adding gutters to divert water away from the foundation as well.  It sounds like maybe the soil erroded away from water run off.
