A few quick questions for you please.
1. If your neighbor's sprinkler is watering your fence and your fence has turned green, do I just have to suck it up and deal with it or is it OK to ask them to clean it?
2. If I do need to clean it myself, a friend offered her power washer. The thought of a power washer scares the crap out of me. Do you just hook it up to your water spout and turn it on, push a handle and spray? I've heard it is easy to splinter your wood if you don't know what you are doing.
3. There are some unidentified stains in our garage. Can I power wash a garage floor and get the general grossness out plus get rid of a few stains while I'm at it? I really don't want to go to the effort of scrubbing out stains.
4. How hard is it to till your back yard? Right now our back yard is in serious need of some TLC. There are random grass patches but we'd like to have more grass. I'm guessing we need to till then lay down seed and water. Would it be more cost/time effective to pay someone or rent a till and do it ourselves?
THanks for helping! I hope that wasn't too many questions at once.
Re: Spring being early this year has me motivated to do house stuff!
1. I would just play nice and wash it. Then maybe ask if they can slide the sprinkler over a little bit from now on since it's hitting the fence and you just cleaned it.
2. A power washer isn't that complicated. I use one just about everyday. Use your common sense, stand aways away etc. If it's really brittle or old wood I'd test an area first just to be safe. Also be aware if you're pressure washing something softer like wood, it may not work as well as you think. Stuff with "give" to it doesn't always pressure wash well.
3. I pressure wash our garage once a year. Just be sure your garage either a) slopes down b) has a drain so the water runs out. Otherwise you'll be left with standing puddle that'll take days to dry. It does get the stains up, but not all. Depends what it is.
4. It's not hard, but it's a giant PITA project. I'm pretty tough
and I hate tilling garden/our yard/whatever. Tillers can be a bit hard to manage esp. if the soil is at all hard. Tillers IME also have a tendency to not work right either/have issues/never as easy as it seems. I'd pay someone and call it a day, but I tend to think like that if I know someone can do it better and faster than me reasonably.
1. Ask them to move the sprinkler if possible, power washing is not at all hard or scary. Don't stand really close. It's easier to start far away and move closer if you need to.
2. The garage is a perfect place to use the power washer. I would sweep it out well first, maybe use a degreaser on the mystery spots to help out and spray at an angle from the front towards the door. Oh and make sure you wear old shoes and clothes, power washing can sometimes get messy.
I hate tilling, HATE it. Fortunately between Papa dukes and FI they don't mind it
