Cricut help-paper rips?

I received the cricut expression 2 for Christmas and haven't used it much becuase the paper always rips when I try to peel it off the sticky cutting mat. I have the little spatula tool, but that doesn't seem to help much. I'm using regular scrapbooking paper... is there something I'm missing or another tool I need? I really want to make things but it's frustrating to try to get the paper (cut or the left over after a cut) off the mat. Help please! Thanks!

Re: Cricut help-paper rips?

  • I don't have a Cricut, but I do have a Silhouette and when I opened the new mat it was very sticky and I also had issues with the paper ripping. I did some googling and found that if you take your hand and basically dab all over it, the oils from your skin will de-stick it just enough. Also, the more you use it, the less sticky it gets, so it will be easier to work with going forward.

  • I also prefer to cut cardstock over paper.

I agree with the other two posters, but mostly this one!

When I use a new mat, I always de-stick it with my hands, and then do my card-stock cuts first. I almost always use cardstock, but if I need to use thin paper, I try to make sure to do that last.

The only thing I can add is, don't give up! When I first got my cricut, I became so angry with the paper issue, that I stuffed it back in the closet for a few months.

  • I totally agree with the other PP's. When I purchased my cricut expression about a year ago I was frustrated witht the paper ripping also. But over time I started realizing that I like cutting cardstock better than paper. I haven't tried the hand trick but I will with my next mat. Best of luck! And I'm sure that over time you will love it.
