Vent for my fellow animal lovers

I am furious! There's this guy in my hometown who "trained" his dogs(a lab and a rottweiler) to defend him against wildlife. First of all what does he think his dogs need to protect him from? Deer? Well this guy's dogs have attacked, and killed several pets in the area including my aunts cats, and a few neighbors small dogs.

Some of these dogs were even in their fence and these dogs got in, and one of my aunts cats was killed right in front of her. This is another reason my dogs will never be allowed outside when I can't watch them, or hear every sound. It sounds awful, but I'd be tempted to shoot that damn dog if I caught him hurting mine.

I am not one to judge a dog by breed, but by the way they're raised, and this is a perfect example. This guy is crazy, and needs to be put in prison. He has no problem with his dogs acting this way, and acts like its normal dog behavior. My dogs will chase cats, rabbits, and birds but he'd never hurt them intentionally. I don't even think he'd know to grab it if he caught it, he'd probably sniff it and try to lick it.

My aunt is trying to have his dogs taken away and put down. It's just a shitty situation, and makes me mad that people like that are even allowed to have pets.

Vent over

Re: Vent for my fellow animal lovers

  • That's awful! Have people contacted animal control? Have they had any action?

It's a great example of the breed not mattering, considering one is a lab and one a rotti - opposite ends of the spectrum with regards to stereotypes.

  • I believe animal control has been contacted, I don't understand why these dogs weren't taken from him and put down immediately. I feel bad for the dogs, but their owner set them up for failure. Their owner has basically set them up for execution.

I'm in a snarktastic mood, and while I don't disagree that this guy is a moron, perhaps your aunt should have learned after the first cat death not to let her cats outside, where things like this are just waiting to happen.

I totally agree with you Katie, but at the same time this idiot has trained his dogs to attack/kill pretty much anything in their path and my gut feeling is that one day it will be the dogs that will pay the price (i.e., another incident will occur, owner will choose or be forced to surrender the dogs and then they will be euthanized), not the dumbarse owner.

Either way, it's a sad situation.

OP: your dogs are adorable but if that is your siggy pic would you please resize it? Wink

  • I just took it off, I'm not sure how to make it any smaller. I'm technologically impaired, I'll figure it out eventually.

My parents always had indoor/outdoor cats, but since I've been on my own I've only had dogs. It seemed to work easier letting the cats out to go, but then again with people like that you can't know the dangers your cat could be in. That's the main reason we haven't gotten a cat, there are bears, and foxes down here and I could never let it go if our cat got out and got hurt. Plus around halloween you can't trust all the stupid little kids out there.
