? about patio umbrellas

would a patio umbrella with a wood pole or metal pole hold up better in the wind?  Not uproot the table or bend/snap in half?  We need a new one so if anyone would like to post a link to what you have that has withstood inclement weather, I'd appreciate it.  Tia.

Re: ? about patio umbrellas

  • I don't think the pole matters as much as the stand. Our table was upended last year by a huge gust and we had a 50 pound weighted stand. The wooden umbrella pole didn't break.

  • My last PB umbrella snapped in half in a gust after having it for about five years with no problems.  I replaced it last year with a new PB one & it's fine in just about any wind when down, so now if there's a chance of wind I just make sure to put it down, but no need to take it out of the stand/table. Our stand is super heavy, too.  I've heard if you put a steel pipe or rebar or something like that (can't remember exactly) inside the hollow aluminum pole it will keep it from bending.  I prefer the look of the wood poles, so am just being way more careful with it now.

I'm 100% agree with you. Now, Wooden pole or Metal pole.. it does not matter. Because, heavy weight concrete and wrought iron bases are best during heavy wind. Can we go everywhere with our table? What you think about it?
