XP: Yay or Nay?

We are considering putting up some window box planters. DH suggested it and I actually love the idea. WDYT? If so, what color/style? Our shutters are black, front door is red, and the roof is now a charcoal color, not what is in this pic:

Also, DH suggested putting one of those metal stars in the space below the balcony/above the porch. I don't think its a bad idea, but is there another idea out there that we might like better?

  • I love the idea of window boxes but I'm not really sure on the color.  Sorry I'm no help.

  • I love the window boxes and would do either white or yellow.

Not sure about the star thing - I kind of like it how it is.

  • Window boxes would be so pretty. I'd match with the black shutters and bring the color in with flowers. No on the star. It's over done IMO. I have one but we stuck it in our mudroom for now. I'll probably toss it in the attic.
  • What direction does your front door face?
  • Window boxes definitely. I think black would look great. You have a great house and I think it would look adorable and even a little cottage-y (I love cottages).

I would skip the star. Like pp said, totally overdone.  Also, my mom hung one on her siding and it rusted and now she has these rust streaks down the front of the house.  I think they look okay if you have a big blank space, but it doesn't look like you do.

  • Yay. In black. And make sure that they are matched in size to your windows. They don't need to cover the whole sill, but a small window box on a large window looks silly.

  • That should be window.

Absolutely do window boxes. Any style. White ones (Colonial) would work really well:

I can't see the bottom picture but I think a barn star would work nicely too.

I agree with all of this. : )
