swollen ear

I just noticed that our 3 month old lab has a swollen ear. I discovered it when I was petting her. It wasn't there earlier this morning. She is acting totally normal. When I tried to check it out she's trying to headbutt me so I can't get a great look at it to see if I see a puncture or anything. She doesn't make any noise when I touch it. Her and our boxer play and they love to tug on eachothers ears. Would it swell like this if he got her too hard and punctured it? It's also been in the 70's here for about a week, and she loves to play in the yard. So I guess it could also be a bug bite?
I want to take her to the vet now, but my husband is working on our only vehicle and won't answer his stupid phone. And the only people I know that could take me here are with him or away.
I do have some anti-inflammatory pills from when our boxer hurt himself. Could I give her half of one and see if it helps with the swelling? image

Re: swollen ear

  • Could you give your vet a call? Or just call an emergemcy vet? Let them know the symptoms and what meds you have available. I'm always on the cautious side giving a prescribed med to one dog that was initially for another.
