Help me choose a kitchen cabinet color

Hi all,

I'm looking for a color to paint my kitchen cabinets. As you can see, currently the doors are the same color as the walls ("Apricot Mousse"), and I'd really like to change them up to have the doors be the same color as the actual cabinets. I wanted to just do them all white, but our laminate counter top is off-white and I'm afraid it will clash. Our appliances are black and our tile is a beige-sandy color with brown grout. I have put up some cornflower blue valances on the windows since this picture was taken, and there are some green accents in the kitchen as well. Also, should I paint the pot rack the same color as the cabinets? Everything is a beige, off-white color right now.

 Any ideas?

Sorry for the massive photo... I can't figure out how to make it smaller.

Re: Help me choose a kitchen cabinet color

  • I agree, some contrast would be nice. Our previous home had white cabinets, light tan walls, and tan/white counters and it looked like a big blob of oatmeal. How about espresso?

Also you could think about changing up other things to get the look you want (like the wall color and swapping out the vertical blinds for curtains).

  • Thanks for resizing that for me!

And yes I was thinking a darker color might be the way to go. I've been wanting to get rid of those vertical blinds, I was wondering if curtains would work there since it's so close to the kitchen work space, but that's also our main "dining" area so maybe it would make it feel more like a dining area and less like the center of the work space.

    Thanks for the tips!

  • If it will work with your tile, I think that gray cabinets would be really pretty.  I love gray and yellow kitchens.
