What did I do to piss today off?

I really need a drink, but alcohol was bypassed in favor of actual groceries due to space in the stroller. (Classy, I know. That's literally how we roll these days.) :o(

My craptastic day is detailed in various posts from earlier (and yes, I'm being a bit of a PW, deal with it!). So, as I'm huddled in bed, under three layers of blankets, shielding the light from my dimmed iPad from my toddler who requires my presence in the room while he goes to sleep, surfing the Internet. I go to check my email and I'm locked out. There has been some suspicious activity on my account, so they want to verify my information. . . by sending me a text or voice message to my cell phone. Yah, that cell phone that I don't have (because we didn't know we needed DH's orders AND a local bank account, because DH's in-processing briefing on cell phones is scheduled for a week plus after we've arrived in country). So, I click on the link for alternate verification. Just my effing luck--it's in German. Really?

I need a damn drink. And a cell phone.

I promise not to whine tomorrow. It will be a better day.

  • It's ok! I understand how it can be settling into a new country. Like you said tomorrow is a new day!

H got locked out of his Gmail acct while he was deployed. They asked him all these random questions like when the last time he downloaded a video to youtube etc. (they also texted him but his phone didn't work). He was hacked and someone sent out some virus' using his email. Needless to say he was able to get back in after a lot of hassle.

  • I am creeped out by the fact that you have to to have your cell phone number on your email account. FB has been trying to get me to add my phone number, but I refuse. I am just not comfortable with it. I hardly buy things online because of the same issue.

I am so sorry that you are dealing with that junk. I think that you deserve a drink tonight. Geeze. I hope that Germany gets better for you.

  • Who is telling you you need a local bank?  We did not have a local bank account when we got our phones two days after we arrived (we DO have one, but we pulled that together two weeks after we got in, when out car arrived).

I believe she's the manager of the phone, cable and Internet store at the PX. For a contract, she said that T Mobile requires a local bank so they are guaranteed payment. DH was able to get a pay-as-you-go phone without a contract.

I'm looking forward to getting our vehicle. It's been here longer than we have.

  • If they are worried about guaranteed payment, can you give a credit card? We are overseas though different region and we just use a credit card. We do have a small foreign transaction charge that shows up but it's literally pennies and saves me from having to drive to a store and pay. Maybe that could be an option for you guys?

I call bullshit.  Honestly, unless one is living off base and needing the German Account to pay for rent/utilities (and at least on the AF bases, our US banks will pay the various utility companies AND landlords) there is no need for a German Account.

Not to mention, again, that we did not have one when we got our cell phone through our BX middle man NOR did we have one when we got our internet, german cable and home phone through the downtown T-Mobile.

What they are more than likely wanting is for you to have an account with one of the US base banks.
