Trundle Bed ?

I'm starting to think about DS's big boy room and am leaning towards a twin trundle bed.  We're still stuck in this stupid TH and need every inch of space possible and bunk beds scare the beejeezus out of me.  Does anyone know if you can make a trundle bed out of a normal bed?  Or does it specifically have to be sized for the trundle?  Of course, I've found some actual trundles I love, however, we'll probably buy him a bigger bed when(if) we ever move so I'd rather not spend a ton right now.

TIA!

Re: Trundle Bed ?

  • A basic trundle can be slid under any bed that doesn't have a center support. So generally only under a twin. You can get a trundle that is basically a metal spring deck on wheels many places, like JCP or any bed store. With a dust ruffle, they become invisible. I actually prefer them over the type that look like drawers, making those up is painful on the knuckles!

  • I had a trundle bed growing up and loved having one. I am actually thinking of doing one in my closet room/guest room for when I have couples stay over (rather than a double or a queen bed).

I agree with Ishoes - it can go under any bed without a center support.

  • You girls just made my day - I'm going to start the "great bedroom hunt" on CL now that I know a normal twin will work!!!  Thanks for the tip on the pain of making up the cute storage-look ones, those are what I was originally eyeing.

One more question - what size comforter/duvet do you use with a Twin?  Full so it covers more?  Or does a twin work?

    Thanks again!

  • Twin should be fine. A full would be overwhelming on a twin.
