Which is harder for you--eating healthy or working out?

After several months off the H&F  wagon, I am trying really hard to get back on. I've done my first week of CrossFit (which I love) and I'm two days into Couch to 5K. I love my new workout routine and I really think I'm not only going to stick to it, but I'm going to enjoy it.

The eating thing is a whole 'nother matter. I have the willpower of....well, of something that has no willpower. I'm hoping as I workout, eating healthier will get easier because I won't want to blow all the hard work I just did. CrossFit wants me to go strictly paleo, but I am not giving up pizza for life. I may try going paleo six days per week with one off day.

So which part comes easier for you? Or are both easy (in which case I am very jealous of you!)? :)

  • The eating is definitely harder.  I do try to eat healthy the majority of the time, but I just love food, flat out.  I have no trouble working out, I enjoy it.
  • Eating healthy is definitely harder.  I love food and so many of my social activities involve food. And my favorites foods are all soooooooo bad :(

  • Eating healthy is definitely harder.

I like vegetables and eat a lot of healthy foods, but I also love bacon and cheese and wine and kind of have some portion size issues at times.

  • The eating.  But once I get in a good groove, it's easier.

I didn't go full Paleo either, but I am grain-free for the most part.  Last weekend my parents were in town and I ate grains for about three days and had the crappiest workout of my life the last day, so I feel like that made the difference.

That being said, I will have pizza or something every other week or so.  One meal doesn't seem to make a big difference for me.

  • Def eating healthy... I love working out, always look forward to it.. but I also love to eat some foods that are not so good for me
  • Ditto everyone else...eating healthy is definitely harder!
  • Definitely eating. I love working out and actually feel weird if I miss a day. I have two more weeks off after my c-section and am going crazy.

  • The eating. Not even the healthy part -- but portion control.

This for sure. I can work out all day long but if I am not watching my diet it doesn't matter. Its rough sometimes because I love food. I try to eat really clean during the week and am am more lenient on the weekend.

  • Eating healthy is harder for me. I eat crap and minimally because I'm always in a rush. My diet sucks and everyone (including me) has acknowledged this fact. I need to do a turn around because it's pointless to work my butt off exercising and then go eat crap food.

  • I seriously love food, so eating is harder.  I "be good" during the week and cut myself slack on the weekends.  Yesterday I ran 18 miles, so I'm letting myself eat whatever I want today b/c I'm starving. I also try to attack it from a weekly standpoint, rather than daily - it seems to balance out that way.

  • I would say for me, it's eating healthy, in particular PORTION CONTROL. I'm the meal preparer, so now I've deliberately started scaling down our portions to "condition" us to get full on less. Worked just this morning-I made more pancakes, but only gave us 2 each, and we were full, and had pancakes left over to freeze for another day. Which makes portion control budget-healthy too! :-)

I can motivate myself to exercise (we're doing P90X, then we'll get gym memberships later this year), thankfully, But it's definitely harder some days than others!

Good luck with your workouts and fitness plan!

  • Definitely the eating healthy part.  I love yoga, zumba, rollerblading, biking, kayaking, hiking, etc.  I am very active and enjoy so many different activities that I never have enough time to fit them all in, so working out is not an issue for me at all.  Eating properly is my downfall.

  • Eating healthy definitely. I miss potato chips!

Working out!  I'm lucky if I get a good work out in 3 times a week.  I can go weeks without working out.  After going a couple of weeks without, I can tell I'm a bit more tense and I'll make myself go for a run or to a yoga session.  That usually kick starts the workout phase.  The vicious cycle repeats itself.

Eating well is my strength and probably the only reason why I've maintained a healthy weight my whole life.  I eat normal rounded meals and don't have a sweet tooth at all.  I also rarely snack.

  • Eating healthy is by far my biggest challenge. I love working out, and really, time is my biggest constraint. If I didn't have to go to work and keep the apartment presentable, I'd work out for hours each day. However, I also love to eat, and while I like many healthy foods, I also like a lot of not-so-healthy food and drink.

  • Eating, I love to workout.
  • Eating is way harder. I'm a culinary student so my life revolves around food. Plus with the stress that we're under a lot of social activities involve drinking alcohol which was hard for me to give up when I started getting more active. Luckily, the more I work out and the more active I am, the less my body craves/wants alcohol and other unhealthy choices.

  • If I will be honest they are both hard for me sometimes!  I tend towards being lazy and cannot diet to save my life.  But I am also vain.  So when the the scale is not in my favor, I take care of it with a combination of exercise and portion control. Also, H & F Nesties definitely inspire me and help keep me on track.  :)
  • I would have to say working out.  I LOVE working out and I run several half marathons and other races a year.  However, I have a fairly demanding job and sometimes am unexpectedly stuck at the office for 12+ hours.  I plan to workout 5-6 days a week, but some days I just don't have time to make it to the gym.

Eating healthy is much easier for me since I feel like I have more control over that.  I definitely love some unhealthy things - pizza/ice cream - but I'm really good with portion control.

  • Eating....riding my bike is a no brainer. I've been riding 4-5 days/week for nearly 15 years.
  • Eating for sure!  Like a lot of the others, I just love food!  I love to cook and make big meals.  I track my calories, and I am an equal opportunity food lover, I eat a ton of vegetables and fruits.  But ice cream and beer/wine always seems to creep in on the weekends and it drives me crazy!  I love to workout and force myself to take 2 days off a week (I have found that 2 rest days are necessary if I want to prevent injuries.)

  • It's a combo, but the edge goes to eating healthy. The BF and I eat out quite often and I lose all self control. Ugh.

  • In the beginning, working out was the hardest to get motivated for - I'm lazy, what can I say?  Now that I'm used to working out, I feel weird when I don't.

I still struggle my eating.  I can't resist all the chocolate/candy people bring to the office or going out to lunch with coworkers or my family.  I've gotten better, but it's still a struggle.
