Diarrhea...help!

Anyone know of anything I can do for my doxie?  He has had diarrhea since yesterday evening, I gave him hamburger and rice for dinner last night and he ate that just fine.  He had a solid poop when I had him out over night and now he has really runny (like watery) poops.  We've been staying with my parents and I think he got into some rabbit poop in their yard but I can't get him to the vet until tomorrow morning.  He's drinking fine and he would eat if I put food in front of him.  Shall I keep giving him the hamburger and rice tonight for dinner or is there something else I could do?

Re: Diarrhea...help!

  • Is he vomiting at all?  I would try some pumpkin, the canned kind.  Not the pumpkin pie filling but actual pumpkin and just a small amount, less than a teaspoon to start.  You can also withhold food/water for 12 ish hours.  But if he isn't vomiting you may want to continue giving water to make sure he stays hydrated.  How is he acting? Is he lethargic at all?  act like he is in pain?  If so I would get him to an Evet ASAP, but otherwise I would take the wait and see approach.

  • No vomiting, he's sleeping right now but he usually sleeps a lot during the day and is more active in the late afternoons/evenings.  I'll definitely try the pumpkin.  Would you just give him a little now and see how he does and then give him more instead of dinner?  Or would you give him some more mixed in his dinner?  I've heard people talk about pumpkin here before but I've never known how to give/feed it.  Thanks!
