Was I wrong?

My neighbors dog wanders the neighborhood during the day and she frequently poops and pees on my lawn, even in front of my toddler playing - ew.  (I've complained about this before, if it sounds familiar).

So now that winter is over and the warm weather has started, we are spending more time outside. Earlier this week when I came home from work, LO wanted to run around the lawn so I grabbed a shovel to attack the poop piles. I scooped them all up and made a little pile next to the curb but on the grass, just over the property line, near his mailbox. Not maliciously - just a "here, I'll put the poop here for you so that you can bag it and toss it" sort of thing.

My mom was hear today and couldn't believe I did it. Also, I've seen the guy outside twice since then and he hasn't said hello like usual. He's a big gardener and could have just been engrossed in his gardening, or he could be mad at me.

FWIW, I saw his wife today when we were out walking and she was friendly.  I think I'm seeing them in an hour at the neighborhood party too. Was I a naughty neighbor?

Re: Was I wrong?

  • Nope, your neighbor is the one who is wrong. He should not let his dog wander into your yard.

  • i don't know that i'd call it "wrong," per se, but maybe a little passive aggressive.  maybe next time, you can just be direct about it, and let your neighbors know that their dog has messed in your yard, and could they come clean it.

  • It was kind of passive-agressive, but you've already addressed it with them and they aren't interesting in correcting the behavior, so you've got to do what you've got to do.

  • Yes, you were wrong.  You should've left it on the front porch :)

In all seriousness, it's ridiculous that YOU are the one who's worried about being a bad neighbor.  They are the ones who should be concerned about seeing you at the neighborhood party...not the other way around.  They sound like they're oblivious at best and jerks at worst.

  • Only the wife went to the party so I guess I still don't know. Their house is on the market though so soon the dog poop will be gone... although I'll miss the scruffy little dog!  Won't miss the dog poop and the cat spraying under my window though... good riddance to that part :o)

  • No.  You shouldn't have to clean up after their dog.
