Help! Need to match up my paint

What is the best way you've found to match up paint?

DH and I were hanging shelves in our condo rental and we messed up (oops).  I have since patched the mistake holes and thought there was paint under the sink, but when I went to grab it I noticed it was only for the outside and the trim color, not the wall color.

So I guess I am going to go get paint chips to get a best match then see if I can get a sample and try it out in a low visibility place, like a corner or something.

Any other helpful tips I am not thinking about?  It's a beige color so I know it will be tricky and want to work in the best light possible.

  • If you rent in an apartment your building supervisor can probably give you the name

  • since you already have a section to paint, you can always chip off a small piece (around 1.5") and take it to be color matched, too.

  • LOL, I thought about doing that (chipping off paint).

I am renting from a private party and don't want him to know.  I think he would freak out even though once we are done, he won't know a thing.  When I asked if we could hang stuff he said yes and then suggested we use the nails that were already in place. ????

They are really nice, but worriers so I'd rather just fix it then let him know about it.
  • Any chance there is an outlet that is painted?  You can unscrew it and take that to the paint store to match.
