How long should I keep frozen deer burger?

My in-laws gave us several 1 pound packages of deer burger from the 2010 hunting season.  It's been frozen the entire time in plastic and then wrapped and sealed in freezer paper.  Would it still be okay to use or should it be thrown out?  TIA!

Re: How long should I keep frozen deer burger?

  • We just go by the idea that it should all be gone before the next hunting season starts. I keep ground meat frozen up to a year (beef from a side of cattle or something) and it's always fine. In your case, I'd probably thaw it out and decide after that! If it doesn't have freezer burn, I'd probably use it. I teach ServSafe but sometimes live on the edge:)
