my cat wakes my husband up every morning between 1-3 am

Hi Everyone!

Does anyone have any advice? My husband wakes up every morning between 1-3 am with crying. She won't stop until he leaves and goes to the couch lol. If I go, she will stop for a little while but then go back in the bedroom and wake him up. I tried feeding her right before bed to try to give her that sleepy, fullness feeling which lasted about a month and now it's back to the same old routine. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

  • My suggestion is to not allow the cat in the bedroom.

Shut the door, and use a noise machine or bathroom fan or air purifier (something!) to drown out the meows. Eventually she might get used to being not allowed in the room and will find something else to do while you sleep.

A second cat might also help, but is not always feasible.

  • How old is the cat? Is this new behavior?

This.  You want to find something where you won't reinforce the behavior by getting up (easier said than done).  Have you tried playing with her before bed?

When B would try to wake me up in the night, I slept with a spray bottle so I could spray him.  It took some time, but he rarely bothers me now.
