Your opninion - Bassett vs Thomasville

What's your experience or opinion on either of these brands of furniture?  We've found some living room furniture at both that we really like. We're leaning towards Thomasville because we prefer their fabric choices. Thank you!

  • Our bed is from Bassett and I really love it.  It has held up great.  We've had it for 5 years.

  • Our nightstands are Thomasville and they are great.  There are a few wear marks on them but thats just because they were thrown in storage with no care and rubbed against the concrete wall.

  • We have a Bassett dining room set and I'm 50/50 on it. I love the custom fabric on the dining room chairs, I love the hutch we have, I love the table itself...BUT the dining room chairs are crappy quality. The arms on 2 of the chairs will NOT stay secure. In fact, they're not even 2 chairs that are used often, yet we do everything possible to fix it (DH re-threaded it, filled it with wood filler, etc.) and it still becomes loose. It's very frustrating.

  • We have tons of Thomasville furniture and it's all wonderful quality.

  • I like Thomasville a lot.

Beware though, if they deliver something broken or torn they generally leave it and send someone out to fix it (vs take it back and bring a new one).  I wrote in the contract that we had the option of refusing delivery for new items.  It turns out the couch did have a small tear in the leather, but they convinced me to allow someone to come out and repair (vs refuse delivery).  Since the hole was small and not on a stress spot, I let them try the repair with the caveat that I will send it back if I am not satisfied.  The repair guy did a good job and we kept the couch and are happy with it. I don't even remember where the flaw was (not able to tell); However, if there was a bigger flaw, I would have sent it back and I am glad I wrote in that I had the option.

  • Those are typically both great brands IMO.

  • I don't have either, but we have been shopping for a new leather sofa and looked at one from Thomasville.  It was comfortable, but I don't think they have the hand tied springs which is important to DH.
