Slipcovers?

Do slipcovers ever work/look nice?

We have a sofa and 2 wing chairs in our formal living room that are a terrible floral pattern. We don't want to spend the money to replace the entire set yet (we just bought a leather set for our family room). We never use the room, I just want it to look neutral because the pastel florals are making me crazy.

Can anyone recommend a brand that doesn't look so slipcover-y? Right now I'm looking at SureFit but I'd definitely love other recs.

Re: Slipcovers?

  • I think that they work if your sofa is a standard shape and has cushions that are removable.  The one-piece slipcovers look like one-piece slip covers.  If you get slip-covers, I'd recommend not getting the microfiber ones.  I got those for a chair in my LR and it looked ok as long as no one sat on it.  I think one with some structure like in a cotton twill hold their shape better and look less messy.  There are also tricks to get it to stay like using uphoulstry pins and a piece of plastic pipe shoved in the back to hold the cover on in a more fitted way.   I also think that if your sofa and love seat are in pieces it works better to get slip covers that cover each cushion individually.  Surefit slip covers are good quality and I would recommend them....just not in the microfiber!
