2 fashion-related questions

1. For those of you who have DHs/SOs with muscular legs, what brand/style jeans does he wear?

DH has been wearing Levi 569 (loose straight), ON and Gap Loose fit jeans for awhile. He also has a pair of Lucky 181s. However, he has lost about 30lbs - mostly through the middle - and in his new size, these cuts are too tight, in his opinion, in the legs, to the point he feels he can't even climb stairs comfortably. FWIW he is on the shorter side of average, 5'8", and usually needs a 34x30 because of his legs, even though his waist is more in the 32-33 range. Shopping for him is a nightmare - he is an XXL on top when it comes to anything remotely fitted, and he hates malls and shopping in general. Yay me. Also, he likes light-medium denim, no rips or holes, no embellishments - not even fancy pockets - and I'd like to stay under $100.

2. We were invited to our friend's birthday party. It is being hosted by her parents (it is a joint party for her and her dad) at a Greek restaurant. However, the invite makes note that there will be drinks and apps - no dinner. The restaurant isn't super fancy, or at least it doesn't appear so from the website. It is a Saturday night at 7:30 in the middle of April. There will be no dancing. What would you wear? Dress pants and a nice top? Dress? Something more casual?

Re: 2 fashion-related questions

  • 1.  Check out Eddie Bauer.  My DH likes his jeans loose and he has a few pairs from there that fit him well.  Whatever brand you end up picking, stick to loose or relaxed fit.

    2.  I'd wear a casual dress or dark jeans and a nice top.

  • 1 - can't help sorry

2 - I would wear a casual dress, with flat sandals; I love wearing dresses though. I think jeans and a cute top with sandals or heels would also be appropriate for the birthday party though.

  • 1. try Wranglers relaxed fit. I *think* that's what my BIL wears, and his body type is similar to your H. my sister is always complaining about buying new jeans for her husband.

    2. ditto PPs.

  • Unfortunately, neither Eddie Bauer nor Wrangler jeans are even close to being loose enough. Also, his calves are close to 18" so the leg opening has to be in the 19"+ range- nothing tapered. The Lucky 181s in his old size are the most comfortable at this point - I'm guessing bc while they're his old size there's less vanity sizing than Old Navy and Gap? It appears Levis has discontinued its Silvertab line as well. Years ago, they had a baggy fit which I thought would work. They have them in black and a dark dark blue on Zappos - which are colors he'd never wear. Yet they have multiple styles of skinny jeans for guys these days!
