Vacation when starting a new job

Hi again, I have a question about asking for vacation before being offered a job. I am in the process of interviewing for a new job and I have a vacation planned for the second week in June. How would I go about telling a future employer this and asking for the time off? Are most employers willing to give you that if it is already planned? Also, when would be the time to mention this to them? TIA!

Re: Vacation when starting a new job

  • Unless they ask you directly about vacation plans, don't bring it up in the interview. If and when they offer you the job, in your counter offer you should list the days you need off, and request them to be pre-approved as a condition of your employment. If they want to hire you, this won't be a problem.

    Perfect.

Dont spring it on them after you start or agree to start either. It needs to be in the negotiations.

  • Once you got job after that manage accordingly .your vacation plan should be negotiable .If they really want to hire you they would agree.

  • I just had this same situation come up.  I was just offered  new job and when they made me an offer I advised them that I already had a vacation planned for July and would need that week off.   They had no problem with giving me that week.
