So, I owe you guys a FU (long)

Friday was my mom's torn rotator cuff repair surgery.  They say that shoulder surgeries are some of the roughest to undergo due to the pain afterwards.  When my dad and I were FINALLY allowed to go see my mom a full hour after the doctor had told us the surgery was a success, she asked us to shoot her.  On morphine, delotid, and a lortab.  Oh yeah, and they had her on a professional ice pack circulation machine thing.  And she was still asking us to shoot her and saying that 36 hours of non-drugged labor with me was not that bad.  It was rough to see her like that.  I swear her poor nurse must've thought I was gonna come at her, lol.  GIVE HER MORE MEDS!  GET HER A SPRITE!  SOMETHING FOR NAUSEA!  (I didn't really yell.  Just very serious looks with a nice tone, haha.)

As of today my mom is still hurting, but WAAAYY more coherent and handling it better.  She was finally allowed to take a shower today.  She was like counting down the seconds to that, buddy.  I was on the phone with her this afternoon talking about my day and she was like "that's-nice-your-dad's-home I GET TO TAKE A SHOWER NOW!"  (He has to help her since she's not allowed to move her right arm at all and can't get water near the stitches.)  So yeah.  Slow going, but at least it's going.

As for me, I went with DH and his family to Atlanta after we got my mom all settled in on Friday afternoon/evening.  We arrived at like 2:30 a.m. Atlanta time on Saturday.  You know how I've been sick?  Something about the stress, the lack of sleep, the drive, the lost hour at the time zone, the different pollen, etc. made it worse.  WAY worse.  I could hardly speak or breathe at all when I woke up on Saturday.  So I didn't get to go to my audition for The Voice.  Sad  It's OK though.  SIL auditioned the day before me.  She said they took 50 people into the audition room, some of whom were so good they gave her chills, and NONE of them got a callback.  So my odds were probably pretty low anyway.  At least I got to go to the Georgia Aquarium and the World of Coke.  My mom is a massive Coke memorabilia collector, so I got to grab a few things for her as get well presents.

I went back to work today.  It was alright, just busy.  And I'm tired of this cold.  I think that's everything.

  • Glad to hear your mom is doing okay, but sorry to hear about the audition.
  • My mom had that surgery a year ago, and it is quite rough. She heard the recovery was painful, but didn't realize to what extent. She'll get through it though! Mom bought a lot of shirts with buttons because for a while she couldn't lift her arms over her head.

Sorry to hear about The Voice :(

I love Atlanta and the Aquarium and World of Coke! Smile We're talking about taking a mini-vacation down there actually.

  • I'm glad her surgery went well, but I'm sorry about the pain, especially if she's on all those meds. Dilaudid is my drug of choice (I've only had it once). And that's such a bummer about missing the audition, will you still do a video? But I'm glad the trip wasn't completely a waste.

  • I am glad your mom's surgery went well! I am sorry to hear about the audition. Are you going to try again next year? Are you feeling any better today?

  • Oh, sessions, I'm so sorry the audtion didn't happen like you wanted.   Maybe next time things will align just perfectly for you and your voice will be heard, but at least you got to do a little sight seeing.

Glad your mom came out of surgery okay aside from the pain, I know how hard that is to see... my mom had spinal surgery just before Christmas and it was really hard for me to see her wincing in so much pain as well (and I had to help rebandage her stitches ,  yuck!).     That's so difficult, but I'm continuing my healthy vibes that your mom has a speedy recover and is back to normal really soon!

Thanks for the follow up, I had been thinking about you.   Hope you feel better soon.

  • Thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery for your mother! My mom went through having her should worked on a couple of years ago and it sucked to watch her wince in pain. Then last summer she had to have her other shoulder operated on, only for her therapy to not progress. They had to go back in and do another surgery this past January. She has been off work since July of last year and she is still in so much pain. She is just now allowed to drive and not wear her sling. Just a word of advice, PATIENCE! It is key and it has taken awhile for me to grasp that, partly because last summer I was in the middle of planning a wedding.

  • Thanks everyone for all the well wishes for me and my mom! I am still fighting off the cold and sniffling today. I'm starting to wonder if I'll ever sound like myself again, lol. For now I'm taking this as a sign and waiting to audition either next year or possibly for a different show like X Factor.
