Some National Guard questions...

WrestleHubby is about to leave for basic for the Army National Guard. I have a few questions that I would like to have some first hand knowledge on. First, how safe is his job while he is gone? He works at a store with only 2 other employees. I would hate for him to get replaced while he is gone because he has an excellent job. Second, when does he start getting paid? Is it while he is at basic? Or after? We are just trying to plan because we recently bought a house with acerage. Thanks everyone in advance!

Re: Some National Guard questions...

  • Google the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act. There are some caveats in there but I just skimmed it...unfortunately I can't speak to the other concerns, but good luck.

  • He will be given reemployment rights. He may not go back to the same job but as long as he gets on similar with similar pay, there's no issue. His unit should have either an FRG liason or a Yellow Ribbon Coordinator and they should be in contact with the ESGR rep.  Second, it may take around 30 days for it to kick in.  It will be back dated to the day he arrives at BCT but sometimes it can take a while to get the flow going, so have some savings built up.

  • What they said, BTW, There is no such thing as the ARMY National Guard Basic Training, All Soldiers go to the same basic training, After their training/school is over that's when they Stay Active, Go reserve or NG.  By Law they have to hold his Job
