Tips for quicker recovery?
I just do not feel like my legs recover quickly. Saturday afternoon at 3pm I ran a local 5 mile beer run.
My legs still feel dead today. 72 hours later. This is normal for me but is there a way to speed it up?
It was hilly and I ran a solid race but still I feel like they should be over it by now.
Re: Tips for quicker recovery?
It sucks a lot. I can and do but it just compounds the problem.
Swimming has been on my to do list so maybe I'll start doing that too.
weird, that is a long recovery for a 5 mile race. do you eat carbs? lots of protein?
you can try compression socks but really for 5 miles you should not need them. a recovery workout (ie, easy run) will do the same thing.
l-glutamine is an amino acid that helps speed up recovery as well.
Agreed. It is long. My legs do not recover well but it has just been since the end of last year when I've really realized how much time it takes.
I do eat carbs and protein. My diet is pretty balanced.
Maybe I'll try that amino acid. I really think they are just weak in general which would also explain why I'm slow in comparison to most.
Must get stronger!
Do you race or do hard workouts often? I notice that when I haven't been doing track workouts, for example, and then I start doing them, at first my recovery time is really slow and as I keep doing them, the recovery time reduces and I can put the workouts closer together.
I definitely notice faster recovery when I make sure to eat and drink right after a tough workout.
I've heard that cherry juice as a recovery drink is supposed to help recovery and reduce inflammation, but I've never tried it.
Not often really so you could be right.
Great insight in this entire post. Thank you all!
