Paint color ideas for bathroom? (PIP)

We are having to repaint our stairwell and upstairs bathroom and I'm having some trouble deciding on a paint color. The bathroom is long and narrow and even though we are replacing the pink tub it still has a pink toilet and tile with pink stripes/grout. The stairwell is very high and a pain to paint so we would like to stick with a neutral so we can change the living room paint in the future without having to paint the stairwell as well. The bathroom is directly at the top of the stairs so I was thinking it would be nice to have them the same color.

Here is a picture of the toilet and floors. (we are hoping to set a new white toilet once we move home, it is seriously gross and we haven't been there for 7 months). The tile is in nice shape but we are hoping to stain the grout something other than pink lol.

I can't really hide the pink so I would like to include it a bit and tone it down. The tile does seem to have a grayish tinge to it would a taupe or greige with some pink undertones be too much? Our contractor uses mainly Sherwin Williams so if anyone has any ideas I would appreciate it :) Right now I'm looking at Diverse Beige. I also really like Temperate Taupe but it might have too much a pinkish/purple undertone for a darker space (up in the peak of the stairwell. Sorry I don't have pictures online of the stairs). The bathroom also has a skylight so most of the time it gets a lot of light.

For the rest of the room, I was thinking a shower curtain like this but if anyone has suggestions I'm all for it. My brain has reached it decision making limit for 2012. I'm too indecisive to do an entire house renovation lol.

Re: Paint color ideas for bathroom? (PIP)

  • I would not decorate around the pink.  I think you should go with what you want it to become...to some extent.

You can always color the grout and even paint the offending tile, as well as replace the toilet.  In the meantime, something without pink undertones could complement it, and still go with the white toilet in the future.

  • Taupe-greige is the way to go.
  • Dude.  I LOVE that tile.

I'd go with a dove-gray color for the walls.  It would go with the shower curtain and the tile, I think.
