*** Liz (or anyone else with advice)*** Amsterdam Transport Question

Liz- did you get a multi-day transport pass when you were in Amsterdam?  I'm torn- we're usually walkers and would prefer to just walk around the city if the weather is nice.  But, we'll def take transport from the Central Station to our houseboat when we arrive, then to the airport to catch the bus to Keukenhof and back and to the airport again when we leave so we will use transport at least 4 times during our trip.  We could get a 4-day pass that covers all bus/tram/metro for E20.50.  BUT, if we bought individual tickets it would be about E3/each way so we may spend as little as E12 the entire time we are there if we mostly just walk around.  So, what did you do- mostly walk around, buy a pass, something else.  I guess riding the trams would save time but I would also hate to waste money- plus, it is just fun to explore and stop to take pics and investigate shops/parks/discovered places.  Any advice?  TIA!

Re: *** Liz (or anyone else with advice)*** Amsterdam Transport Question

  • I bought a multi-day pass. I walked a lot, but it was still well worth it for me to have the pass. There were some times when the weather was rainy or otherwise less than grand. You can get practically anywhere by tram or bus, so it was really nice to have the option when I didn't feel like walking quite so far or wanted to pack a bunch of stuff to see into one day.
  • When I was in Amsterdam it was only for one full day and then I had to catch a train the next half day.

I didn't buy any passes while I was there and just walked around for the most part, and hopped on the trolley to get across town when we had further to go for a euro or whatever it was.

I really enjoyed walking there more than other bigger Euro cities because of all the canals and bridges, rather than boring streets and alleys.

  • Thanks for the quick response.  Maybe we'll just go that way since we'll be arriving in Central Station and can buy the multi-day pass right there.  That way we won't have to worry about it.  Plus, we may be able to fit more in a day if we're riding the trams.  Good advice!
