new desktop - no clue how to adjust brightness & colors
Help..please!
I have a new HP TouchSmart 420 and I can not figure out how to adjust the brightness, contrast & colors on the monitor. There are no buttons on the side/top of the actual monitor.
I did find one program "HP My Display Touchsmart Edition", but that only lets me choose from 4 modes - default, movie, text, & gaming. The color temperature changes with each one, and I can adjust the brightness & contrast there, but I can't fix the colors. All the colors are so far off.
Does anyone know how to adjust them?

No formatter is installed for the format bbhtml
Re: new desktop - no clue how to adjust brightness & colors
Try doing a color calibration.
Start/windows button
Control panel
Display/appearance
On the left side should say color calibration as one of the options
Cancer sucks.
Makena, I have same problem on my new Elite 7320. I agree it's the program you cited causing the problem. It's published by Portrait Displays, btw, not HP. You can find more about it on their website, incl. an exe that shows you the FULL Help document, not the short crummy Help HP loaded on my PC.
In the short run, I tried stopping it from running at Startup by deselecting, in Options, the 3 checkboxes---but it STILL runs at startup. After that DIDN'T work, I decided NOT to remove it via Run/ms/config/Startup tab---only because it's probably not a good idea to remove anything you're not sure about.
Also, I know my version is out-of-date, but I don't want to download a newer version until I'm sure it will actually function. I'm concerned whether a newer version will work on my PC, because, in its Help, Portrait Displays says not all options work on all PC's.
How I'm dealing with it now: in Options, I checked the one enabling right-click on desktop. When my color goes off in an MS Office program, I return to desktop, right-click to open "HP My Display", select "Text", then click the reset button. That returns the brightness, contrast & volume to factory presets---which on my PC were OK for Office 2010 programs---if only those values could "hold".
The volume is also erratic on my PC, for the same reason. Crazy-making, huh? Did you find a solution? I've been waiting for an answer from HP for days. Best wishes!
