Less food with Taste of the Wild

We are doing 1/2 cup per each kitten and it seems to take them longer now that we are switching to Taste of the Wild. Would you suggest going to less dry food?

Re: Less food with Taste of the Wild

  • Are they getting chunky? If so, you can cut back a bit.  The feeding guidelines on the bag are just suggestions and tend to be higher than animals need.  Are you doing set feeding times?

Also, don't forget that TOTW is a high quality food, so they will eat less.  I can't remember what you were feeding before.

  • They are growing fine not chunky at all. Gwen was at the vet last week and Super Kitty the week before.  We're doing about 2.5-3 oz of Chicken Soup for the Cat's Soul in the morning and California Natural/Meow Mix/Taste of the Wild as soon as the wet is gone.  The vet told us to keep it out during the day since they are only 5 months old.  We were doing a 1/3 of each. The previous owner had them on Meow Mix and I wanted to get them off as soon as we could.  We bought a 5 pound bag to help with transition and a 5 pound bag of California Natural.  We went to a different store and found Taste of the Wild cheaper and the review was better.  Before doing the Taste of the Wild, they were eating quicker and the dry food would be gone when we woke up in the morning.  Now the dry food is done around 10-11 and that's when I do the wet food.  We do the dry around 3 when the wet is gone.

The vet did say if we notice them off the pattern we had previously to cut back on the amount of food.  I do know to double for kittens.
