Do you read decorating and renovating books? I'm not talking about magazines. People are always saying "they're working hard on this YHL book!"....but I don't think I've ever picked up an actual book about decorating and renovating. I've only searched the internet. Is there a big market for books like that? Are they writing this thing as more of a coffee table book (a pointless, but pretty looking book).
Re: S/O: YHL Book
I love looking through them but can't say I've ever read one cover to cover. For me it's about the pictures which is what spawns ideas.
Do we even know what their book is called? 1,001 Ways to Decorate Using Spray Paint and Potatoes? I kid.
Teehee.
LOL! There are going to be quite a few spray painting projects
All joking aside, I don't have any decorating books, but I have a lot on my Amazon wishlist that I'll buy after we move. (Those are big heavy books. I don't want to add to the moving load.) Based on the D&R blogs I read, I would say that there is a large market for people to buy the books. Plus, all of their fans, including those who don't currently buy decorating books, will buy this one.
I do actually have some....mostly books that we picked up used or bargain books.
I like to look through them from time to time for inspiration or for ideas on construction, (even if I don't actually do the exact project in the book), or just because. Some of our books are period/style specific, some are more about design/color/scale....we just like that kind of stuff.
As for the YHL book....I won't look for it, but if we come across it at the bookstore we might glance at it, just to see what the heck a book of theirs would actually have in it. I certainly wouldn't buy it, since I don't consider them to have any 'new' take on anything and I don't think they have great skills.
This. I have read tons of decor books, but I have typically checked them out from the library. I did buy the Design Sponge book and House Beautiful's paint book. I plan on looking at their book. I'm interested to see what new projects they showcase. I know they get a lot of flack around here, but I can't imagine coming up with enough projects to blog about daily and fill up a book.
I have a couple of renovation books- one on outdoor structures, one on wiring, one on plumbing etc. I own 1 decorating book- the Domino book- because I love Domino and I miss it so much so I went and bought the book, in hopes that still selling the books might make them release the mag again
I'm not interested in the YHL book. I'll flip through it but no way will I buy it. I LOVE D*S (well, I did 3 years ago, not so much anymore) but I have zero interest in purchasing Grace Bonney's book, and I think she has more talent and creativity in her little finger than both Petersiks combined.

I have a few. I think one is about fabric and draperies or something and another one I have is Steven Saint-Onge's book, No Place Like Home.
I'd have to browse through the YHL book before deciding if I'd buy it.

This is the sort of book i MIGHT flip through at the bookstore, but would never purchase.
