Grain Free food

I posted the other day about Charlyze's problems with black in her ear.  It seems to be gone and her ears are not red at all, so I am keeping a close eye on it to see if it comes back or redness occurs.

We do want to go ahead and switch her food though.  She is currently on Halo because it has no rice, so we are wanting to now go Grain Free.  What are some of the best brands for Grain Free?  She has been on Nature's Variety, but I am not really sure what else is out there.

 Thanks!

Re: Grain Free food

  • Taste of the Wild! I'm a HUGE fan of TOW - we recently switched to this and we can see a HUGE difference! The price is great for how long it lasts, and it must be delicious because it disappears as soon as it hits the food dish. We've seen a difference in appearance and energy levels (some times too MUCH energy and I want to switch back to a not-so-great food in hopes of more laziness!) Wink

Also - dono if you've looked at the FAQ - but there is a link there to a food ratings site and has LOTS of options for grain free! I used it when we were switching to TOW, it helped me make the decision, very helpful!

  • We feed Acana and have been really happy with it. They have several flavors that we switch between to give our dogs some variety.
  • Before we switched to raw I did Wellness Core and Archie liked it. I think they even have it at either Petco or Petsmart now so fairly easy to track down.

  • Acana, EVO, Nature's Variety, Orijen, California Natural, Canidae, Taste of the Wild.  Plenty of others, but those are a few good ones to start.

  • My cats and dogs are doing very well on Wellness Core.  And I think it is a plus that it is so easy to find.

  • I'm a fan of Fromm. Feed it to both the dogs and cats. Great quality, great company all together.

  • When we were on a break from feeding raw, we fed Acana and were really happy with it.

  • Another TOTW fan here!  It seems to be the only grain free I've found that my pup's delicate belly can handle.

  • I feed my two pups Wellness Core, and they do really well on it.  However, each dog is different, so even though you choose a very high quality food, it might not be the right fit for your pup.  Many places will give out free sample bags, so you can try a brand without investing in a big bag of it.
