Dress me for a lunch / "hiking" date?

I know I should have thought more about this yesterday, but I was too busy worrying about what to wear to meet Elizabeth Warren (again - squee!), and now I'm kind of desperate.

I have an 11:30 early lunch date, after which we're going hiking (flat terrain national park).

Weather today is supposed to vary from about 68 degrees (lunch) to around 75 (done with hike), and be fairly sunny.

Thoughts?

  • layers. I'd probably start off with hiking boots (duh Wink) and good socks. shorts, even though you may be a bit chilly during lunch, you'll warm up quickly during the hike. you maaaay want to wear pants and tuck them in your socks if your area is prone to ticks. long sleeve shirt layered over short sleeve shirt since you can always remove the long sleeve and belt it around your waist. sure it's not fashionable, but you're hiking, who cares? and a hat for sun protection. don't forget the sunscreen! pack a small backpack with water, snacks, maybe a small first aid kit.

  • I would just wear tennis/running shoes, yoga pants then a short sleave shirt and a light jacket or long sleave shirt. Plus a hat and sunglasses.  I've hiked 14ers that involved a fair amount of climbing in that combo, so I wouldn't worry too much about what to wear on flat trails.
