Sleep Number Bed

Anyone own one?  Likes?  Dislikes?  We're considering getting one but I have been reading mixed reviews.  Is it worth the money.  DH & I have very different prefrences when it comes to firmness.  Thx.

Re: Sleep Number Bed

  • We have one and we love it. We've had ours for years (possibly 7 years?).  No issues. Ours is an older 5000 model, dual chamber, with a single cordless remote.

  • DH had one when we met and he loved the thing. I hated it. I felt every movement because it is basically an air mattress so is really light, so when you turn over it rocks the whole thing. It was one of the nicer models with the thicker foam top but it still felt like sleeping on an air mattress. When we were bed shopping, there were some "normal" mattresses where each side could be made to a different firmness, so you could get one firmness for the left and a different firmness for the right. I thought those were nicer.
  • We were very close to buying one last month but after seeing 99% bad reviews online, we changed our mind - but the review above from sounds good.
  • :::lurker butting in:::  We've had ours for almost four years now.  I absolutely love it.  I had terrible back and neck issues prior to buying our sleep number bed but now I rarely have problems due to sleep position.  I have no doubts that it made my pregnancy much easier too.  :::butting back out:::
  • We've had ours for about 7 years and we love it.  No problems whatsoever.
  • *Another lurker chiming in*

We purchased ours thru QVC in January and so far we love it. No problems at all. We love the fact that it will never sag or get indentations like our old mattress (which was only 6 yrs old)

  • Love it! My mom loves hers as well.

I hate them. They are very uncomfortable to me. I need a surface that yields and bounces. Only innersprings do this, so that's all I sleep on. I can't sleep on air or water mattresses. Even memory foam is horrible, lying down is like...thud. Latex is okay, but only for pillows, because a head weighs less that a whole adult body... so springs win for me.

  • My ILs have one...that they moved into their guest room, which is very telling. So, now DH and I sleep on it when we visit.

There are two major things I cannot stand about it.

First, the bed they have has two air chambers. There is a bump or ridge in the bed between the two sides that is very noticable and completely uncomfortable. Forget snuggling or other stuff in the center.

Second, within the last year, one side is broken. It doesn't work anymore. It doesn't hold air correctly. I cannot fathom spending that kind of money on an inflatable bed that might not work in several years.

Oh, and it makes funny noises whenever the air shifts...

We got one in February and, although that wasn't very long ago, so far we love it!  DH has back problems and used to constantly complain about our previous bed (which was only 2 years old), but since we have been sleeping on the sleep number, there are no more complaints and we both sleep so much better.
  • May I ask what model and size u guys have, how long you've had it,  and how much u paid for yours?  I've read the warranties are terrible and nothing is really covered.

  • Had one and hated it with a passion. It was a queen size dual chambered and was the mid grade one. I think we paid $2k for it but I don't remember for sure.  While you can adjust each side independently, they exert some pressure on each other so the setting on the right affects the setting on the left and vice versa. So if DH and I were comfy we had to adjust the setting if the other person got up. Also, the divider between the air chambers was a piece of foam, so our bed was sagging after a couple of months because we like to sleep close to each other. Sleep Numbers answer was that we weren't supposed to sleep in the middle.
