We have a gorgeous old ash tree in our yard that has a 67" diameter. I got quotes from a few companies yesterday to take care of some work on other trees in our yard, and one of the consultants (a certified arborist) mentioned that there's an infestation of Emerald Ash Borers that started in Michigan and is reaching our area in southeast PA. He gave us a quote for $335 for treatment, and I definitely knowd that this would be vastly cheaper than trying to take down a huge old tree near streets and power lines. Has anyone dealt with this with ash trees (or similar infestations) that is willing to share their experiences? If so, does this quote seem reasonable?
Thanks!!
Re: Ash Tree Question
It sounds reasonable, but I need more info:
What chemical will he be applying?
How will he be applying it (method)? Basal injections, soil drench, etc.
How many treatments, over what period of time?
In EAB treatment cost analysis, one thing we know for sure is that treating the tree is cheaper in the short term than removal and replacement. And in the long term, treatment is the best choice for preserving the environment benefits provided by such a massive tree. Plus, a tree that large could appraise at many thousands of $. If it were mine I'd have it appraised and insured.
The Emerald Ash Borer is in the village our old house is in- the village's way of treating them is to remove all ash trees. However, if you can prove that you have treated it, then it can stay. We have an Ash tree- smaller than yours maybe 24 inches. We did a self treatment that we bought at a home improvement store.
